It was released as the lead single from their tenth studio album, Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016), on August 18, 2016 as a digital download.[3][4] The song was first played live at the end of the band's show at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 20, 2016.[5] The song received a nomination for Best Rock Song at the 2017 Grammy Awards.[6]
Background
The band detailed on the song's debut at The Howard Stern Show that it was a rather late addition to the album.
