Hardwell & Friends Vol. 1 is the first volume of two EPs that are supposed to be released in summer 2017. They are recorded by Dutch DJ and record producer Hardwell. The release of the first part was done on 28 July 2017 by Hardwell's own record label Revealed Recordings.[5]
Background
Hardwell announced the release of two eps on 10 June 2017 during an interview at Ultra Singapore. He also announced that the song "Badam" with Henry Fong and Mr. Vegas will be part of it in the same interview.[6] However, the track can not be found in the tracklist of the first volume. In mid of July 2017 the cover art of the first volume appeared in the internet. On it, there is pictured every single collaboration-partner of the ep, except M.Bronx, the singer of the track "All That We Are Living For". During the 326th episode of his "Hardwell on Air" podcast, he announced that he wants to release the tracks of the ep day by day between the 24 and 28 July 2017. During the podcast he previewed the whole tracklist.[7]
The two eps replace the annual "Hardwell presents Revealed" volume for 2017.
Singles
Before the ep got released, Hardwell published the whole tracklist as single-tracks on among others Spotify and iTunes. The single covers consist of press pictures by the artists. Just M.Bronx and Anthony B can not be seen on the single cover of "All That We Are Living For" and "Police (You Ain't Ready)".
- "We Are Legends" was the first single of the ep. It was released on 24 July 2017, while it was first played at Castello A Mare, Palermo, Italy in June 2016 but indeed as an instrumental version. The vocals were added in winter 2016 and presented in January 2017.
- "We Are One" was published one day after and premiered at Ultra Music Festival 2016. Its one of the oldest track of the ep and was also played as an instrumental version for the whole year. Later the year, after fans of the track predicted the song as a collaboration with Dutch dj Armin Van Buuren, regarding his live sets. In an Q&A, he told that he does not have anything to do with the track and referred it to W&W, who are actually named in the credits. On 20 June 2017 the song was already released in different Asian countries with vocals by Taiwanese mandopop singer Jolin Tsai. But actually the official Revealed-Verion was sung by Alexander Tidebrink, whos vocals got less positive review than the voice of Tsai.
- "Police (You Ain't Ready)" was released as the third single on 25 July 2017. It was produced with Portuguese dj Kura, who already collabed with Hardwell once, for the song "Calavera". The first drop was already presented in January 2015 during an episode of Kura's radio-show "Ambush radio". At that point of time the artists were indicated as "ID". Hardwell then played the reworked version at Electric Zoo, containing a hardstyle- and a trap-styled drop. The break of the song consists of a sample of Anthony Bs track "Police" from the year 2002.
- "All That We Are Living For" followed on July, 27. It developed in cooperation with Dutch hardstyle dj Atmozfears and singer M.Bronx. After Hardwell and Atmozfears announced, that they work together, in late 2015, many fans predicted "Wake Up Call" to be the collaboration track. But during the final "I Am Hardwell" concert at Hockenheimring in Germany, Hardwell told, that he "now plays the track, that everybody was waiting for" and leaded to "All That We Are Living For", while Atmozfears joined the stage.
- "Smash This Beat" was published on July 28 as the final release. Behind the track, there is a collaboration with newcomer Maddix, who is part of Revealed Recording since 2016. The song is the youngest track of the ep, due to his premiere at Ultra 2017.
