Harald Wohlfahrt (born 7 November 1955 in Loffenau) is a German chef. In 2005 he was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz. He is often rated as the best German chef and amongst the finest in Europe.
His former restaurant, Die Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn-Tonbach (Baden-Württemberg), has maintained three stars for 25 years under his leadership, a record in Germany.[1] It was voted 35th best in the world in the Restaurant (magazine) Top 50 and, in 2009, it was voted 23rd in the worlds 50 best Restaurants.
Wohlfahrt is credited with training six of the other nine German chefs awarded three-stars in the "Guide Michelin 2013 - Deutschland".[1]
In 2017 Wohlfahrt was supposed to hand over the head chef position to Torsten Michel. During the process he initially was supposed to take over a position as "Culinary Director" for the entire Hotel Traube Tonbach. There seem to have been issues in the process as at some point Wohlfahrt was formally forbidden access to the Schwarzwaldstube and sewed the the Hotel and its owner to maintain head chef. On July 25th 2017 the court case was closed as both parties reached an undisclosed agreement. Wohlfahrt will no longer be part of the Hotel Traube Tonbach.
