Hankasalmi is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. The municipality has a population of 5,220 (31 March 2016)[2] and covers an area of 571.71 square kilometres (220.74 sq mi) of which 115.89 km2 (44.75 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 9.13 inhabitants per square kilometre (23.6/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Kangasniemi, Konnevesi, Laukaa, Pieksämäki, Rautalampi and Toivakka.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Nature

There are all together 97 lakes in Hankasalmi. The biggest lakes are Kynsivesi-Leivonvesi, Armisvesi and Kuuhankavesi.[7]
