Guy Wyman was a colonel in the US Army[1] during World War I. He served as a quartermaster sergeant in K Troop, 11th Cavalry Regiment,[2] and later served as the commanding officer of the 11th Cavalry Regiment.[2] He is credited as being the founder of Navarre, Florida and its neighboring beach community of Navarre Beach.[1] He also helped in the construction of the Pensacola Bay Bridge and Eglin Air Force Base. According to Santa Rosa County, he also donated most of the land that is now Navarre Park.
Navarre
U.S. Army Colonel Guy Wyman was fighting in World War I when he met and fell in love with a French nurse named Noel. U.S. immigration policy at the time did not allow him to bring Noel back to the States as his fiancée or his wife, however, so he adopted her as his child and brought her to a little part of the Florida Panhandle where his family owned a large amount of land. The couple named their territory after the old Spanish province of Navarre.
