Gus Backus

Gus Backus (born September 12, 1937 in Southampton, Long Island, New York as Donald Edgar Backus) is a former member of the Del-Vikings. He also released a single on Carlton Records in 1958. He later became a popular singer in 1960s West Germany after he was stationed there as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force at Wiesbaden Air Base from 1957.[1] He sang all his songs in German language and charted with 19 songs between 1960 and 1967. He landed No. 1 in German charts with his song Der Mann im Mond (The Man in the Moon) in 1961.

Gus Backus lives today in Germering[2] near Munich, Germany. He is married and father of four children.
