Greg Austin is an actor, best known for his role as Charlie Smith in the BBC's Doctor Who spin-off Class.[1]

Early life

Greg grew up in Bournemouth.[2] Before Greg became an actor he started off as a dancer. He danced Modern, Ballet, Tap and Street Dance, which got him into musical theatre. After this he studied at Arts Educational in London, where he finished his musical theatre degree in 2013.[3]

Career

From 2014 to 2016 Greg starred as the young Gordon Selfridge in ITV's Mr Selfridge.[4] He got this job even before finishing his theatre degree.[3] He also appeared as Rufus Barton in one episode of Law & Order: UK.[5] In 2015 Greg appeared in the short film Into the Surf. A year later he starred in the short film Backing Up.[6]

Class

In 2016 Greg was cast in the BBC Three Doctor Who spin-off Class as Charlie Smith. Greg's character Charlie is an alien[7] who falls in love with his classmate Matteusz.[8] At first Greg didn't know his character was alien. When he read the script he presumed that Charlie was being a bit socially inept and might have a mild Asperger's syndrome. This also helped him to have a different way of looking at things and to get an alien perspective.[7]

Private Life

Greg married his wife Abigail Cole on the 22nd of October 2016,[9][10]after 9 1/2 years of relationship.[11][12][13] Austin has his own gaming youtube channel, under the name 'EuphAuric'.[14] His wife Abbie also appears in several of Austins videos.
