Saint Petersburg State University Graduate School of Management

The Graduate School of Management, GSOM (Russian: Высшая школа менеджмента Санкт-Петербургского государственного университета, ВШМ СПбГУ) is one of the 22 schools (faculties) of Saint Petersburg State University. It was founded in 1993 as School of Management (Russian: Школа менеджмента) later renamed to preserve consistency into Faculty of Management (Russian: Факультет менеджмента). In 2005, it was chosen to become a part of the National Priority Project in Education aimed at creating two leading business schools in Russia (the other one is Skolkovo Moscow School of Management).[1] Within the framework of the project, the school was transformed into GSOM and granted the Mikhailovka estate in Petergof to create a campus.

Faculty and Students

GSOM employs 65 full-time faculty members and over 150 professors from other faculties of the University and international business schools, as well as leading management practitioners.[6] They teach 1,122 students: 651 undergraduate, 251 graduate (221 at Master's, 40 at Candidate's), 155 MBA, 65 at professional development programs.[7]

Premises and Facilities

GSOM is headquartered in Arthur B. Schultz building at 1-3 Volkhovsky Pereulok which houses the administration, library, publishing house and all the post-graduate programs.[8] Graduate programs are located in GSOM's first building at 16 Dekabristov Pereulok. In 2006, the school was given a former royal suburban estate Mikhailovka in Petergof to reconstruct it and create its campus. The long-neglected property was found in a very poor condition, and despite the federal funding of billions of rubles, it is still under development.[9]

GSOM has some dormitory premises on Vasilievsky Island, close to the school buildings. Yet, it appears to be insufficient, and some students have to commute from the University dormitories in Petergof.

Rankings and Accreditations

In 2012 GSOM obtained institutional accreditation EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System). Today it is the first and currently the only in Russia and CIS business school, which gained this international accreditation. The quality of educational programs is approved by program accreditations: AMBA (Executive МВА) and EPAS (Bachelor).

GSOM SPbSU is a member of global associations of the leading business schools: EFMD, AACSB, CEMS, PIM, EABIS, GBSN, GRLI.

The university's master in international management program was ranked 56 in the "Masters in Management Ranking 2014" by Financial Times.

According to EdUniversal ranking since 2008 GSOM SPbSU is the first among Russian business schools, and in 2013 EdUniversal agreed for the second time that GSOM SPbSU is the best among business schools of Eastern Europe. “Izvestia” newspaper ranking (2011, 2012, 2013), based on the interviews with MBA graduates, awarded GSOM as the first among Russian Business Schools.[10]
