Grace Kodindo (born 1960) is a Chadian obstetrician-gynecologist.[1][2][3]
Life
She attended undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Montreal.[2]
She was head of the maternity unit at the Central Hospital in N'Djamena for many years.[3] In 2000 she became the president of the Chadian Association of Gynecologists, and was given the FIGO/Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Distinguished Community Service Award for Emergency Obstetric Care for her work.[4] A few years later she became a faculty member of the Mailman School of Public Health.[4] Some of her work was featured in a 2005 BBC film, titled Dead Mums Don’t Cry.[3][5] Hope for Grace Kodindo, a nonprofit, was created to raise money for women's health problems in Africa due to people being inspired by her work.[4][6] She subsequently started working as a chief advisor for the Reproductive Health Access, Information, and Services in Emergency Settings (RAISE) Initiative.[4] In 2009 she was part of a program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo dispensing services for reproductive health; her work there was featured in the BBC documentary Grace Under Fire.[4]
