Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute

The Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute in Allahabad[1] is a social science research institute in India. It was established in 1980 by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) of the Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

It is involved in research in social sciences and mainly focuses the fields of socio-economic development, popular culture, public policies and social technologies of modernity. It provides training, guidance, consultancy and research feedback to scholars, agencies, institutions and government organisations concerned with development. The institute offers doctoral and post-doctoral research work with ICSSR fellowship support for scholars. It is affiliated to the University of Allahabad for the award of doctoral fellowships.

As part of its commitment to rural development it has started an MBA Rural Development program. Economists such as Jean Drez and social historian and cultural anthropologist Badri Narayan Tiwari are among the faculty.
