Gorakhdham Express is an Indian daily Superfast Train service of Indian Railways, which runs between the Indian cities Of Gorakhpur and Hissar via New Delhi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Gonda, & Basti, in India.

Overview

The Name Of This Train Is In Two Parts, "Gorakh + Dham". "Gorakh" Is Named To Guru Gorakshnath, & "Dham" Means Place, Which Together Means "Place Of Guru Gorakshnath". This Train Commenced Its First Service in 1988. It Is One Of The First ISO 9002 Certified Trains Of India, To Be Introduced, Because Of Its Security Features and High Priority In, Indian Railways Network. The train is mostly hauled by WAP 5 locomotive of Ghaziabad shed between Gorakhpur Jn. and New Delhi but due to the unavailability of WAP 5 locomotive, WAP 4 locomotive of Ghaziabad is used . From New Delhi to Hisar Diesel Loco is provided.

This trains is mainly operated by & belongs to North Eastern Railway Zone of Indian Railways. This train is one of the most important trains of Hissar, as well as of Gorakhpur Jn..

Accommodation

This train consists of 24 coaches, Including 5 Air Conditioned Coaches I.e. 0.5 AC 1st class, 1.5 AC 2 tier, 3 AC 3 tier, 8 Sleeper Coaches, 4 Chaircar Coaches & 5 Unreserved Coaches.

Facilities

This train has on-board facility of catering, for providing Snacks, Foods, Tea/Coffee, Beverages. It also has, on-board cleaning and housing services, which maintains the cleanness of coaches, as well as of toilets.

Locomotive

It is hauled by a WAP4/WAP5 locomotive from the Ghaziabad shed from Gorakhpur Junction to New Delhi after which a Tuglakabad based WDM-3A/WDP4D from Tugalakabad shed hauls the train until Hissar.

Accidents

In dense fog on 2 January 2010, the Gorakhdham Express and Prayagraj Express collided near the Panki railway station in Kanpur, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Lucknow. Ten people died and about 51 were injured.[1]

On 26 May 2014, it rammed into a stationary goods train near Khalilabad station in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, on its way to Gorakhpur.[2] More than 40 people were killed and over 150 were injured.
