Gilvan Tavares

Gilvan de Pinho Tavares (Sabinópolis-MG — January 22, 1940) son of Agenor de Pinho Tavares and Maria Flor de Maio Pimenta Barroso[1] is a Brazilian former lawyer, and the current president of the association football team Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. He got the post in December 2011 for the 2012-2014 triennium.[2] Gilvan actued as player in Cruzeiro at the youth category during 1956.

During his short tenure as president, Gilvan Tavares has already operated in a few cases in Cruzeiro, being the hypothetical negotiation involving Walter Montillo with other Brazilian teams, specially Corinthians[3] and São Paulo FC[4] one of the most mainstream ones.

An aspect that accompanied the new president was its effort to keep squad's important players, which goes against the old capitalist policy imposed by the preceding president Zezé Perrella, which took post from 1995-2002 and 2008-2011. Fact that was very criticized by the supporters; that provided the basis for a manifestation in the possession, including banners charging for a policy change,[5] that might have instigated the new president to adhere to a new prudence.
