Major-General Giles Patrick Hill CBE is a British Army officer who currently is the Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Defence Engagement).
Military career
Educated at Lawnswood School in Leeds, Hill served as a reservist with 4th Battalion, Parachute Regiment before he was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment in 1990.[1] He commanded A Company of 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment during Operation Telic in Iraq and then became commander officer of 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.[1] Hill went on to be Commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade in May 2011,[2] Deputy Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in 2013[3] and General Officer Commanding 1st (United Kingdom) Division in April 2015.[4] He became Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Defence Engagement) in April 2017.[5]
Hill was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2014 Birthday Honours.[6]
