Gerard Nus is a Spanish football coach, who is currently the assistant technical director of Rayo Vallecano, and an assistant coach of the Ghana national football team. In 2017, he staged a seven-week sit-in protest after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations until he was paid.

Career

In September 2007, Nus joined Liverpool F.C.'s football academy. The following season, he became part of the first team coached by Rafael Benítez and reserve coaching staff. He then worked as an assistant for the Chunnam Dragons in South Korea, during which time he published a book Warm up in football: training sessions & matches. The book has been translated into English and Korean, and its foreword was written by Rafael Benítez. During the 2012-2013 season, Nus was the Head of Academy Coaching at Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., and for the 2013-2014 season, Nus worked as an assistant coach at Melbourne Heart. During the 2-15-16 season, he worked for Elche CF. In July 2016, Nus was appointed Assistant Technical Director of Rayo Vallecano. In August 2016, he was named the head coach of North American Soccer League team Rayo OKC. The team finished fourth in the 2016 North American Soccer League season.

Ghana

Prior to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Nus was appointed an assistant coach of the Ghana national football team by head coach Avram Grant. After the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, Nus staged a sit-in protest at a hotel in Accra, Ghana. He was protesting against non-payment of his wages. The sit-in lasted seven weeks, and after he received payment, Nus returned to Spain.[1][2]
