George Milles-Lade, 2nd Earl Sondes

George Edward Milles-Lade, 2nd Earl Sondes (11 May 1861 – 1 October 1907) was an English first-class cricketer active 1882–91 who played for Kent. He was born in Faversham and died in Marylebone. During his playing career, he was known as Viscount Throwley. He was the eldest son of the 1st Earl of Sondes and succeeded as the 2nd Earl in September 1894.[1]

Cricket

Educated at Eton College he was in the Eton eleven in 1880.[2] In 1882 he made his first appearance for Kent, playing twice in that year and twice in 1884.[2] In 1891 he was elected president of the Kenty County Cricket Club.[2]

Military service and death

Milles-Lade served in the Second Boer War with the Royal East Kent Yeomanry where he was shot and wounded.[2] His health suffered and his wound required repeated operations until he had heart failure after an operation on 1 October 1907.[2] He was unmarried and he was succeded as Lord Sondes by his brother Lewis Arthur Milles, 3rd Earl Sondes.[2]
