George Lawton (4 August 1862 – 1930) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke.[1]

Career

Lawton played for Stoke St Peter's before joining Stoke in 1885, he played in both FA Cup matches in the 1885–86 season as Stoke lost to Crewe Alexandra in a replay.[1] In January 1886 he joined nearby Burslem Port Vale, where he scored three times in thirteen friendlies, before returning to Stoke later in the year.[2] He was a member of the Stoke squad during the first season of the Football League in 1888–89 where he played in 13 matches, scoring once against Burnley in a 4–3 victory.[1] Stoke finished bottom of the table and at the end of the season Lawton joined Altrincham.[1]
