Gennadiy Korol is a video game programmer, animator and producer. He studied at Tel Aviv University in Israel, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Korol currently serves as Director of Technology and Project Manager at Moon Studios GmbH, a company founded by him and Thomas Mahler in 2010[1]. The Studios is noted for attracting and utilizing developer talent around the world in a decentralized manner[2][3].
Korol is best known for being co-creator of the 2015 critically acclaimed and award-winning indie game title, Ori and the Blind Forest, which became profitable within weeks after release[4][5][6].
The game is considered an example of video games becoming closer to art, and it won, among others, the BAFTA Games Award for Artistic Achievement and the Game Award for Best Art Direction[7]. For example, Chris Melissinos commented that the video game audience was not used to seeing Ori and the Blind Forest's dreamlike sensitivity style of art usually reserved for high profile animated films[8]. Korol was included on the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2017[7].
He is currently developing Ori and the Will of the Wisps.[9] Korol regards virtual reality gaming the "future of entertainment", but that it would have to break the market through lower prices[10].
