History
The club is the second oldest in the island of São Vicente founded on 18 February 1923. The club was founded by a group of students, being the first in Cape Verde to do so.
Early in 1973, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary. Later, the club won their first national (then mainly colonial) and only title in 1973, two years before the independence of Cape Verde, they defeated Vitória from Praia 1–0.[2] In their last final match and competition under Portuguese rule, the club lost 2–1 to Sporting Clube da Praia.
In 1998, Castilho celebrated its 75th anniversary of its foundation of the club.
The regional competition became two tiers in 2008 and Castilho became the first club to be relegated into the regional Second Division where they remained until 2012, Castilho competed in the Premier Division once more and for the next two seasons.
Recently the club was relegated to the second island division in the 2013–14 season after being ranked 8th with 8 points and only 2 wins, they were second in the island second division during the 2014–15 season. The first match against Académica lost a nearly huge 6–1 in the first match and the second ended in a draw with 3 goals, thus Castilho is kept in the second division. Castilho achieved second place in the regional second division once more for 2016, the club faced Farense which was tied one apiece in the first match and Castilho lost 1-2 in the second match and again remains in the regional second division this season. After three seasons in that division, Castilho achieved first position in the regional Second Division and will return again to the regional Premier Division in the following season.[3] Also Castilho will be the third participant into the upcoming 2017 Champion's Cup (or Trophy) and will challenge the Premier Division winner CS Mindelense.
