Graphic Era University,[1] formerly Graphic Era Institute of Technology, is a deemed university located in Clement Town, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. The university was founded as 'Graphic Era Institute of Technology' in 1993 and in 2008 it has accorded with the status of Deemed University.

History

Graphic Era Institute of Technology was founded in 1993 and started with undergraduate programs in core engineering and allied sciences. Soon after the establishment. In 2008 the Institute was accorded the status of Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act,1956[2] vide Notification F.9-48/2007-U.3(A) dated August 14, 2008, and approved by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. In 2015 Graphic Era University was accredited by NAAC with grade ‘A’. NAAC[3](National Assessment and Accreditation Council) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country for upholding the quality of higher education.

President

Graphic Era University was established by Prof.(Dr) Kamal Ghanshala,[4] in 1993. He is an engineer, entrepreneur and a philanthropist and possesses excellent academic credentials with Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Computer Science & Engineering and Doctoral degree in Computer Science from Kumaun University, Nainital. Prof Ghanshala is a proactive chancellor and a teacher par excellence. He is inarguably, one of the leading experts in the teaching of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and ‘C’ languages. His plethora of knowledge is not just confined to the four walls of the university but also reflected in many research papers he has written and for which he been felicitated, at national and international levels, such as in Croatia, Denmark, Johannesburg, Turkey, London, Paris, Germany, and Thailand. He has received widespread recognition for his leadership qualities and management acumen. He is a past recipient of the Uttarakhand Ratna Award, the International Millennium Goldstar award[5] and the lifetime achievement award from Indian Economic Development and Research Association, New Delhi.[6]

Admission[13] in Graphic Era University in all courses is conducted on a merit basis.

The university now offers 40 undergraduate and postgraduate courses across disciplines like engineering and technology, management, allied sciences, humanities and social sciences, and hospitality.[14] GEU has 6 schools of excellence.

Post Graduate Programs

GEU offers many postgraduate programs (M.Tech, M.Sc., M.C.A., MBA)[23] under six schools. The admission to the M.Tech program is carried out mainly based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). M.C.A. admissions merit list is prepared on the basis of UPTU-SEE/ UTU-SEE/ Merit of Qualifying Exam. MBA admissions are through CAT/MAT/XAT score followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Doctoral Programs

GEU also offer doctoral programs in engineering, sciences, computer application, management, and humanities.[24]

Placements

Graphic Era University has a training and placement department, the Corporate Resource Cell, which works towards the fulfillment of the students' aspirations of attaining the best professional career. Campus placement drives at Graphic Era University attract multinational organizations[25] like Accenture, WIPRO, Infosys Technologies, Cognizant, Tata Consultancy Services, Josh Technology, Samsung Software Labs, L&T Infotech Ltd., IBM, Aon Hewitt HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra Ltd., Indian Army, Indian Navy. Approx 1400 placements were recorded in academic session 2016–2017.[26] The students have been from B.Tech. ( Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Instrumentation and Control, Information Technology and Mechanical branches), MCA, MBA, MSc IT, and M.Tech. Many of the students have also taken up teaching as a profession and have been placed as Lecturers with various engineering college in the state of Uttarakhand and neighboring states.
