Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Government Engineering College (CBPGEC)[1] is a premier government engineering institute located in Delhi, India. It was established by the Department of Training and Technical Education, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi in 2007 and was named after the first Chief Minister of Delhi, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash. The aim of the Government of NCT of Delhi is to develop this college as a centre of excellence in Civil engineering and Environmental engineering. The college is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, a state university established by the Government of NCT of Delhi. The institute is amongst the only four government institutes (Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Delhi Technological University, Jamia Millia Islamia) in Delhi which offer Civil engineering. It is the only college in Delhi after Delhi technological university to provide Btech in environmental engineering

Campus

Ch. Brahm Prakash Government Engineering College is located in Jaffarpur Kalan, South-West Delhi. The 8.5 acre campus is surrounded by Ch. Brahm Prakash Industrial Training Institute and Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalaya.

Entry to The College

Various functions and shows for entertainment purposes are held in this amphitheatre. The campus is located in a semi-urban village which provides wide access to open land for surveying and other major fields of study in Civil engineering. Gymnasium facility is available for students, faculty and staff. It has huge expanse of agricultural land nearby which are a boon for environmental students as they can monitor air and soil samples.

Establishment[2]

The college was inaugurated by Former Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Sheila Dikshit in 2007. In a comparison to the sanctioned intake in degree-level courses of engineering in metropolitan cities, Delhi had the lowest intake compared to Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune etc. All this led to the establishment of Ch. Brahm Prakash Government Engineering College.

The college plans to offer graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Engineering and Science and to enroll 2,000 students. The Government of NCT of Delhi has approved the creation of a Center of Advanced Studies and Research for Disaster Mitigation Management, Environmental Monitoring and Forecasting, in the campus of the college.

Admissions

Admission is given to students on the basis of their ranks in IPU-CET which is conducted every year by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Departments[3]

The College currently has 5 Departments:

Also, there are plans to add mechanical engineering to the curriculum in the near future.

Faculty[5] and Academic Programmes

The faculty consist of regular (recruited from Union Public Service Commission) and contractual teachers. Guest faculties from sister institutions like Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology occasionally give lectures to students. The college offers Bachelor of Technology degree in the following Undergraduate programmes[6][7]

Festivals and Other Cultural Activities

Prarambh was the first version of the annual cultural fest of GEC Delhi and Exuberance '10 was the second version. Since 2012, the annual cultural fest has been organised under the name of PRO-GEC-TION. Since 2013, Footprints is name of the convocation day.

The college publishes a quarterly newsletter called Expedition which provides a common platform to students, faculty and staff for sharing the experiences, ideas and information about academic events, cultural and sports activities. The first issue of the newsletter was released in March, 2010.

All this is now looked after by the college's first cultural and sports committee named Renaissance.

How to Reach[8]

The college is well connected by Delhi Metro and Delhi Transport Corporation buses. The nearest metro station, Dwarka Mor on Blue Line, is almost 15 kilometers away from the college. DTC bus number 827(Tilak Nagar-Jaffarpur Hospital), 835(Tilak Nagar-Rawta Mor), 821(Najafgarh-Jaffarpur Hospital) and 817(Inderlok Metro Station-Mitraon) provide the shortest routes to reach the college. Gramin Sewas and private mini-buses provide shuttle service from Dhansa Stand to Jaffarpur Hospital.

Currently, reaching the college may seem to be a strenuous task. But as part of Delhi Metro's Phase III, the Metro network is being expanded till Najafgarh and the construction work is expected to complete by mid-2016. The college is about 8 kilometers away from Najafgarh and can be reached in about 15 minutes.

Metro link to the hospital is under discussions, but nothing concrete has been achieved. The best way to reach till then is to take a Private Passenger Van from Khaira Mor.
