Gönül Bridge Location in Turkey |
Gönül Bridge is a bridge under construction in Turkey.
The bridge which is planned to open to service in 2017, is in Ayvalık ilçe (district) of Balıkesir Province. At 39°20′38″N 26°41′04″E / 39.34389°N 26.68444°E it will connect Lale Island to mainland (Anatolia) .[1] There is another connection between Lale Island and Cunda Island. Thus this bridge will serve to facilitate Ayvalık-Cunda connection. Currently the connection between the island and the mainland is by a road on an artificial filling. But because of the filling the natural water flow to the Ayvalık bay is interrupted. When the bridge will replace the filling the natural water flow will resume in the bay.
The length of the stone bridge will be 300 metres (980 ft) and the width will be 20 metres (66 ft). It will be a four-arch bridge. There will be separate lanes for pedestrians and bicycles[1] There is some delay in the construction for the number of the necessary bored piles had to be increased from 73 to 350 during the construction.
