Funfields (previously as The Whittlesea Alpine Toboggan Park) is an Australian amusement park located in Whittlesea, Victoria. It is 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Melbourne.[1][2] The park opened in 1985.
History
The park opened in 1985 as the Whittlesea Alpine Toboggan Park featuring toboggan rides. This ride, known as The Great Alpine Toboggan Slide still exists at the park.[3] Thunder Dome is a set of go-karts which are modelled on 1950s and 1960s sport cars. The track is 400 metres (1,300 ft) long.[4]
Attractions
Funfields has 14 rides designed for all ages, being the Kidzone designed specifically for kids and features three rides.[5] It includes:
- Formula Fun Go Karts (a set of children's go-karts),[6]
- Jungle Express (a train ride),[7]
- Pony Express (a carousel).[8]
The rest of the park is made up of attractions designed for all ages.
Blackbeard's Fury
Funfields is also the home of Blackbeard's Fury. This ride is a pirate ship attraction which was previously located at Sea World on the Gold Coast.[9]
In late 2012, the park purchased and refurbished another Gold Coast ride, Burnout, which was previously called "Stingray" and was located at Dreamworld.[10] Crocodile Creek, an 18-hole mini golf course is located behind Blackbeard's Fury.[11]
Water rides
The park also has a collection of water rides. Bumpa Bay is a set of electric bumper boats.[12] "Blackout" and "Wipe Out" are tandem tube slides which are fully enclosed.[13] The third water attraction is Splashdown. Splashdown is a series of flume slides in which guests ride on a foam mat.[14]
Wacky Waters
A recent addition to the park is the Wacky Waters Play Area. The attraction is a children’s wading pool with "interactive play features".[15]
Typhoon Waterside
In 2013 Funfields added the "Typhoon Waterside" which is the world's longest ProSlide CannonBowl. [16]
