Fulton County Sheriff's Office (Georgia)
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is responsible for providing law enforcement services within Fulton County, Georgia, to prevent crimes, preserve the peace, and make arrests. Responsibilities of deputies include securing and providing safety to County buildings, courtrooms, jail and other public areas and processing and securing inmates at the Fulton County jail. Fulton County, Georgia is home to Atlanta, Georgia.
The department is headquartered at 185 Central Avenue, S.W. in Atlanta.[1]
The sheriff is Theodore "Ted" Jackson.
Mission statement
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is constitutionally created to:
1. Maintain the Fulton County Jail;
2. Provide services that are needed and directed by the Court Systems;
3. Provide support and educational services to the community as a method of preventing and reducing crime; and
4. Enforce Federal and State laws.
History
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office absorbed its counterparts in the defunct Campbell County (south)and Milton County(north)that were abolished and absorbed into Fulton for financial reasons by an act of the state legislature in 1931during the Depression.[2]
Deputies are issued Glock 37 .45 GAP pistols for their patrol duties, prior deputies were armed with the Glock 22 .40 S&W pistol.
