Frogmore is a plantation house on Edisto Island, South Carolina, built by Dr. Edward Mitchell of Waccamaw, about 1820 when he married Elizabeth Baynard of Edisto Island.[2][3]
Frogmore is a distinctive antebellum sea island cotton plantation. In 1840 Dr. Mitchell operated a large plantation with more than 100 slaves. The house is a rectangular, two-story, hip-roofed residence.
During the Federal occupation of Edisto Island beginning in 1862, Colonel Moore of the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry used Frogmore as his headquarters.[4]
Frogmore was listed in the National Register May 5, 1987.[5]
