Fred Okengo Matiang'i is a Kenyan politician and belongs to the Kisii people.[1] He is the current acting Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Internal Security and Coordination of National Government in Kenya after the sudden Demise of Gen Joseph Kasaine Ole Nkaissery. Matiang'i had served as the Eastern Africa regional representative for the Centre for International Development, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the State University of New York before being nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and Technology on 23 April 2013.[2][3]
He formerly taught at Egerton University and the University of Nairobi.[4]
On 24 November 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a cabinet reshuffle, appointed him as the cabinet secretary for Education. On July 8th 2017, he was named the acting cabinet Secretary of Internal Security in Kenya by President Uhuru Kenyatta following the sudden death of Joseph Nikaiseri in Karen Hospital, Nairobi on the same day.
