First Star Software, Inc. is a New York based video and computer game development, publishing and licensing company,[1] founded by Richard Spitalny (who remains the company's president), Billy Blake, Peter Jablon and Fernando Herrera in 1982. It is best known for its classic Boulder Dash franchise[2] and Spy vs. Spy titles, originally written for home computers like the Acorn Electron, Amstrad CPC, Amiga, Apple II, Atari 400/800, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, and later Mac, MSX, NEC, PCjr, Spectrum ZX, and Windows. Millions of units have been sold in both the Boulder Dash and Spy vs. Spy series of games, with Boulder Dash appearing in the coin-operated arcades four times.
The company's games have been ported to numerous video game consoles, such as the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, ColecoVision, Intellivision, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), SEGA Master System, and, Xbox. First Star Software has also published or co-published its games for portable devices such as PDAs, handheld game consoles (Game Boy, Game Boy Advance; Nintendo DS and 3DS), as well on mobile phones (J2ME and BREW) and iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle and Fire TV; and, Windows 8 smartphones and tablets.
The company's most recent release is Boulder Dash-30th Anniversary for PC and Mac on Steam.
