First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) is an independent college-preparatory Christian school in Macon, Georgia, United States. FPD was founded in 1970 as a project of Macon's First Presbyterian Church. The school enrolls about 1000 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.[2] FPD is a member of the Georgia High School Association[3] and of the College Board. It is accredited by both AdvancED and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and is certified by the Council for Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA).[4]

Athletics

Since the fall of 2010, FPD has competed in the Georgia High School Association. 2010 was its last year in the Georgia Independent School Association.[5] Since entering the GHSA, the Vikings have finished in the top 10 in the Region's Bank Director's Cup for the past six consecutive years. The school's highest finish was second place during the 2015-2016 school year.[6]

The Vikings and Lady Vikings compete in baseball, basketball, cheering, cross-country, dance, football, golf, lacrosse, marksmanship, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics.[7]

Since joining the GHSA in 2010, FPD has won numerous region and area championships as well as two state championships in girls' soccer [8] and state championships in softball[9] and clay target shooting.[10]

Academics

The elementary school was named a national Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2003, and the middle school was named a national Blue Ribbon School in 2012. The elementary school was again awarded the Blue Ribbon in 2015.[11] [12]

FPD offers 16 honors courses and 22 Advanced Placement courses.[13] The school offers diploma endorsements in both Fine Arts and STEM.[14]

In October of 2015, FPD signed a sister school agreement with the Guangzhou Xiehe School in Guangzhou, China. The goals of this agreement are to promote international and cultural understanding, develop collaborative learning experiences, and provide opportunities for contact and interaction between the school communities.[15]

At the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year, FPD added a duel credit and dual enrollment option to its college-preparatory program.[16]

Each student at FPD has access to a personal computer at school and is able to take it home. FPD's campus is fully wireless to help facilitate this commitment to technology in the classroom. [17]

There is a community service component to the curriculum at FPD. Each student must earn at least 30 hours of community service each year and participate in an extended service project before graduation. The focus of the service requirement is distressed populations.[18]
