A First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, commonly referred to as the First Deputy Prime Minister, is a member of the Russian Government.[1] The First Deputy is to be proposed by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation (commonly known as the Prime Minister), and approved by the nation's President.[2]

The office is the successor to the posts of First Deputy Premier of the Soviet Union and the First Deputy Premier of the Russian SFSR
