Gunpowder & Sky ( also G&S for short) is an American digital media production and distribution company owned by Otter Media. The company was founded in January 2016 by Van Toffler, Floris Bauer and Otter Media. In September 2016, the company acquired FilmBuff, a film distribution company that specialized in releasing independent films theatrically and through video on demand.[3][4]

History

In 2007, Cinetic Media partners Robert Nathan and John Sloss founded FilmBuff.[5] The company released independent films theatrically and through video on demand.[6] In 2009, it was announced Filmbuff would open a video on demand channel with first run films and classics each month.[7][8]

In January 2016, former CEO of Viacom Media Networks Music Group, Van Toffler, together with Floris Bauer and Otter Media formed Gunpowder & Sky, a digital content company. The company takes its name from a lyric in the Aimee Mann song "4th of July".[9]

In September 2016, FilmBuff was acquired by Gunpowder & Sky, with FilmBuff being re-branded under the parent company's name. FilmBuff CEO Janet H.A Brown would become Gunpowder & Sky's executive VP of distribution.[10][11]
