Background and career

After graduating from high school, Tysander ran an online retail business with a Necktie and Plastic watch web shop. In 2006, when Tysander was backpacking in Australia, he met a fashionable traveller by the name of Daniel Wellington who was wearing a Rolex Submariner with a classic Nato watch band.[3] The simplicity of the watch inspired Tysander to create his own watch brand, named after the Englishman he met.[4]

He studied Business in the University of Uppsala.[5]

Tysander launched the Daniel Wellington brand started after he graduated from university and also after five years of being part of the Watch Industry via his old online business Neptune design.[6] His success with Daniel Wellington came as a result of his online advertising strategy and campaigns through social media.[7]

The watches Tysander designs for his business are simple and minimalistic, they have an interchangeable nylon Nato strap and it can also be replaced by a leather strap. Tysander invested $15,000 to start the Daniel Wellington brand. In 2011, he sold the first Daniel Wellington Watch. By 2014, the brand sold over 1 million watches and took in $70 million.[3]

According to Veckans Affärer, Tysander plans to make a major SEK50 million investment in Klarna in 2017, the agreement date hasn’t been announced yet.[8][9]
