Everything’s Rosie is an animated TV series for children aged 3 to 6 years. Created by Vickie Corner for V&S Entertainment Ltd, and produced in HD CGI animation[1], the series follows the adventures of a little girl named Rosie and her friends Will, Holly, Big Bear, Oakley the ancient oak tree and Raggles the blue rabbit[2]. Together they go on fun adventures and learn that everything is better with a little help from your friends. Four series have been aired along with a special episode "When You Wish Upon an Oak". Everything’s Rosie broadcasts on CBeebies in the UK and internationally across 160 territories[3].

Plot

From left to right: Rosie and Raggles

Central character Rosie is a bright and inspiring 6-year old girl who, with her best friend Raggles the blue rabbit, lives in a modern pink playhouse which sits in the centre of a beautiful garden – Rosie’s World. The brightly coloured house has stairs that disappear at the flick of a switch leaving a helter-skelter slide down to the playground below. The interior of the house is colourful and contemporary with a clear glass lift to the first floor and an organic indoor garden.

There are seven primary characters in the series – including Rosie, Raggles, loveable Big Bear, daredevil Will, artistic Holly, chatty Bluebird and wise old Oakley, the oak tree, ensuring broad appeal not just across a wide age range but also across both genres. Characters are diverse and kids will always find someone they can engage and identify with. Although Rosie is the lead character she doesn’t always take the lead. In Rosie’s World equality rules and the friends demonstrate teamwork and learn that everything is better ‘With a little help from your friends...’

Other locations in Rosie’s World include Big Bear’s Den with its thatched roof and stained glass windows, Will and Holly’s Studio which is built into the side of a grassy hill, the Playground, the Picnic Area, the Maze, the Orchard, the Stream, Oakley’s Hill and The Showground – a natural amphitheatre made up of interlinked concentric rings which can transform at the touch of a button into an ice rink, football pitch, stage or swimming pool.

The stories featured in Everything’s Rosie embrace everyday questions that curious pre-schoolers have such as Can I fly to the Moon? What’s that noise? How do bees make honey? and aims to explain them in a child-friendly way. Rosie and Raggles like nothing more than whizzing around the garden on their beloved Twooter (part tricycle, part scooter) looking for their next fun adventure.

Throughout the series the friends learn valuable social skills, including how to interact with each other and work as a team, and discover that everything is better with a little help from your friends. Episode themes include Celebration, Creativity, Caring for the Planet, Using Your Imagination and The Great Outdoors, including sports, games and weather. With an educational element running through each episode, kids are engaged and have fun while learning.

Reception

Everything's Rosie launched on CBeebies in May 2010 to critical acclaim. Appealing to both girls and boys, Rosie immediately established itself as a top rated show. The series continues to exceed its benchmark share year on year and regularly features in the Top 5 pre-school programmes according to BARB.

7 years on Everything's Rosie has established itself as a recognised member of the CBeebies family and has been on air almost daily since launch. The series has also been sold to over 160 territories worldwide and is regularly scheduled in prime time slots.

Common Sense Media's Emily Ashby comments - Everything's Rosie reflects the joys of cooperative play and friendship, but that doesn't mean there aren't moments of conflict among the characters. Just like in real life, they can be disagreeable and testy with each other, and they often have different ideas and opinions. Happily, though, they learn a lot as they resolve the issues that arise during their adventures, and there's always something positive for viewers to take from the content[18].

One of the most endearing features of the series is the catchy theme tune, written by Mike Moran and music by Mike Moran and Rowland Lee.

In praise for the series parents on Mumsnet have commented 'My kids love it and just can't get enough, I've lost count of how many times we've watched it over and over again!'[19]; 'My son won't stop singing he theme tune... my ears hurt!'; 'It's such a sweet show, such magical imagery and lovely colours'[20].
