Eva Åkesson

Eva Åkesson (born 30 December 1961 in Ängelholm) is a Swedish professor of chemical physics, who is Rectrix magnifica (Vice-chancellor, or head) of Uppsala university. Before being appointed to this position, she was Prorector at Lund University.

Åkesson was inaugurated as Vice-chancellor of the university on Dec 16, 2011.[1]

In February 2014, eight deans (faculty heads) and three vice-rectors (the level immediately below the Vice-chancellor) at Uppsala university demanded that Åkesson leave her position, with allegations of a poor leadership style on her part.[2] The university board (consistory) gave Åkesson their vote of confidence and she remained, while the three vice-rectors left their positions.[3] A year later, Åkesson commented on the leadership crisis, saying that she could have prepared herself better for her position as rectrix.[4]
