Erika Shields is the 24th and current Chief of Police for the City of Atlanta, Georgia. Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reed announced on December 1, 2016, that he had chosen Shields to succeed then police chief, George N. Turner, on December 28, 2016 due to Turner's choosing to retire. Chief Shields has more than 20 years of experience with the agency. She is the second woman to lead the Atlanta Police Department.[1]
