Erich Andres
Erich Andres (b. 1905 Leipzig, d. 1992 Hamburg) was a German war photographer and photojournalist.
Biography
From 1921-23 he was apprenticed to a typesetter in Dresden. In 1923 he moved to Hamburg and started work as a photojournalist in 1932. In 1937 he documented the Spanish Civil War for the fascist side. During World War II he was a photographer in the Navy.
Recognition
One of his photographs was selected by Edward Steichen for The Family of Man exhibition and book. His photography of the destruction of Hamburg[1] by Allied aerial bombardment provides a rare German perspective[2]
