Enrique Gonzales Manalo (born July 21, 1952)[1] is a Filipino diplomat and Undersecretary for Policy of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He served as Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines from March 9 to May 17, 2017 when Perfecto Yasay Jr.'s ad-interim appointment confirmation was rejected by the Commission on Appointments due to citizenship issues.[2]
Early life and education
Manalo was born to diplomat parents; Armando Manalo and Rosario Manalo with the latter being the first female career diplomat of the Philippines. He attended the University of the Philippines Manila where he obtained both a Bachelor's and master's degree in economics.[3][4]
Career
Manalo has been working with the Department of Foreign Affairs since 1970.[5] At the United Nations, Manalo served as the permanent representative to the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and other organizations in Geneva, Switzerland from 2003 to 2007. From 2010 to 2011, he served the Philippine ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and later as head of the Philippine diplomatic mission to the European Union. He was the head of the Philippine Mission to the European Union from 2010 to 2011. He was also ambassador of the Philippines to the United Kingdom from 2011 to 2016 and a non-resident ambassador to Ireland from 2013 to 2016.
Personal life
Pamela Louise Hunt-Manalo is the spouse of Enrique Manalo. They have two sons.[4]
