Myke Hideous (aka Myke "Spy" Hideous, born October 16, 1966) is an American gothic rock singer and songwriter from New Jersey.
He is the founder and vocalist of gothic/punk band The Empire Hideous in the early 1990s. He also performed with The Bronx Casket Co., Spy Society 99 and the Misfits as a fill-in vocalist (May–July 1998: South American and European tours).
Life and career
Early career and projects
In 1987, Myke Hydeous auditioned for the lead singer position in Kryst the Conqueror, the heavy metal band project led by former Misfits bassist Jerry Only and his brother Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (lead guitarist). The recording singer chosen for the band's only album, Deliver Us from Evil (1989), was Jeff Scott Soto.
Myke Hideous created his own band, The Empire Hideous, for which he was the lead singer and songwriter. The group issued a first EP, This Evil on Earth, in 1991 and four albums from 1994 to 1998. Hydeous released a solo album called Out of Anger in 1994.
Performing with the Misfits
Hideous auditioned for the Misfits' original reformation in 1995, losing out to Michale Graves.
The following year, Mark Steiner released a documentary film entitled To Build an Empire,[1] about The Empire Hideous.
In 1998, he was hired as a fill-in vocalist for the Misfits when Michale Graves took an indefinite hiatus because he did not want to go on an extensive tour outside the United States. He did vocals at all the group's shows on the Europe and South America tours that summer, but Graves returned to the band later that year after the tour was completed.
Later career
After his Misfits experience, Myke Hideous sang for Spy Society 99 and The Bronx Casket Co., with whom he recorded the album Sweet Home Transylvania (2001, credited as "Spy").
At the beginning of 2011, Myke released his final Empire Hideous record, The Time Has Come, and also appeared in the documentary Living the American Nightmare: The Story of a Rockstar. This documentary features Myke Hideous as the main center-piece, telling the story of his rock star life and his battle with cancer at the age of 21.
In October 2012, he released the cover song "Moving in Stereo" by The Cars as a free download on his website to commemorate the death of Peter Steele (lead vocalist of Type O Negative), as it was one of Steele's favorite songs.[2] The song is also available on Bandcamp.
Myke Hydeous has a published biography entitled King of an Empire to the Shoes of a Misfit. The Memoirs of Myke Hideous.[3]
Hideous created a Facebook page for "The Hideous Files".
