Emma Husar (born 20 April 1980) is an Australian politician. She has been the Australian Labor Party (ALP) member for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Lindsay since the 2016 federal election.
Husar was born at Nepean Hospital, and lived at South Penrith since age 20. She is a single mother with three children aged 8 to 14.[1]
Husar ran as the ALP candidate for the seat of Penrith at the 2015 New South Wales election but was unsuccessful. However, she did reduce sitting Liberal member Stuart Ayres' 16.3% hold on the seat to near marginal territory of 6.2%.
On 23 November 2016, in her second speech to Parliament, Husar revealed her family history of domestic violence.[2]
Husar gained notoriety for her 8 November 2016 press conference when, as a newly elected Labor MP, she drew attention to opinion polls showing the Government's approval rating dropping. However, the same polls also showed Opposition Leader Bill Shorten trailing Malcolm Turnbull as preferred prime minister. When that fact was pointed out to Husar by a reporter, she backtracked and said polls were a "dime a dozen" and that she didn't put "too much weight" on any of them.[3]
