Ellis Jones (chief executive)

Ellis B. Jones is chairman and former chief executive officer of Wasserstein & Co.

Biography

Jones graduated from the Yale School of Management and the University of California, Berkeley.

Jones has spent more than twenty years in investment banking and private equity and has been responsible for building and overseeing both industry and product groups at major investment banking firms. He was the senior partner responsible for the sale of All-Clad Holdings to Waterford Wedgwood PLC, the sale of Odwalla Corporation to Coca-Cola, and is currently Chairman of the Board of Element K and was the senior partner in charge of its purchase from Ziff Davis.

Previously, Jones was Head of West Coast Investment Banking at Wasserstein Perella & Co. and, prior to that, was Managing Director/Head of Los Angeles Investment Banking as well as Head of the Hotel and Gaming Group at Salomon Brothers during the period of 1988 through 1994. Before that period, he was a Vice President in investment banking at The First Boston Corporation, where he worked as a member of the firm’s direct investments and real estate partnerships. He has also provided a range of strategic investment banking services to such clients as Mirage Resorts, Occidental Petroleum, Mandalay Bay Group, Tracinda, ITT, and Disney. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Element K, True Advantage, Phoenix House (a non-profit organization) and the Cate school in Carpinteria, California. He was also a former director of Imax Corporation.
