Effingham is an unincorporated community in Florence County, South Carolina, United States.[1] Located at the intersection of US 52, US 301 and SC 327, It is a farming community along the northern banks of the Lynches River.
McCall Farms is located in Effingham. Founded in 1838, McCall Farms owns the Margaret Holmes, Glory Foods, Bruce's Yams and Glory Farms canned and frozen foods brands. Their canning facility in Effingham employs 800. In 2006 they added a frozen foods manufacturing facility. Most of the products are unique southern vegetables and seasonings. A sample of Margaret Holmes canned products, for instance, includes boiled peanuts, yams, yellow squash with vidalia onions, okra, rutabagas, triple succotash (tomato, lima beans and corn), and tomato with okra and corn. A sample of Glory brand canned products includes mixed southern greens, collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens and fried apples. Another notable product line is Glory Brand's line of low sodium greens. [2]
