Edmund Dinis (October 4, 1924 – March 14, 2010) was an American prosecutor and politician from Massachusetts.
Born in the Azores, Dinis and his family emigrated to the United States and settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After graduating from high school, Dinis served in the United States Army during World War II. He then studied law at Suffolk University and was admitted to the Massachusetts bar. Dinis also went to the University of Chicago and to the Harvard University Graduate School of Public Administration. He served as district attorney for Bristol County, Massachusetts, from 1959 to 1971. He later served as treasurer for Bedford County. Dinis prosecuted the Chappaquiddick incident involving Senator Ted Kennedy. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Dinis served on the New Bedford City Council in 1962 and 1963 and in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1949 to 1950 and the Massachusetts State Senate from 1956 to 1961. Dinis was a Democrat. Dinis also owned the radio station WJFD-FM. His father Jacinto F. Diniz also served in the Massachusetts General Court.[1][2][3][4] Dinis died on March 14, 2010, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He was 85.
