Edge of Fury is a 1958 American drama film directed by Robert J. Gurney Jr. and Irving Lerner and written by Robert J. Gurney Jr.. The film stars Michael Higgins, Lois Holmes, Jean Allison, Doris Fesette and Malcolm Lee Beggs. The film was released on May 1, 1958, by United Artists.[1][2]
The film was summarized in TV Guide as "sick low-budget grossness about a psychopathic young beachcomber, Higgins, who pretends to befriend a mother and two daughters living at their summer home. He talks the family into letting him rent the adjacent guest cottage, then he slaughters the whole family."[2]
Plot
Wealthy young artist Richard Barrie owns a New England beach cottage. He agrees to rent it out to Florence Hackett and her two grown daughters, Eleanor and Louisa, and is invited by Florence to stay at the house with them.
As he paints Florence's portrait and befriends Eleanor, he is taunted by Louisa. It is revealed that Richard has been seeking psychiatric care. He becomes jealous upon seeing Louisa kissing a boyfriend and violently resists when Eleanor demonstrates a romantic attraction to him.
Louisa attempts to help her sister attract Richard's interest, but he physically abuses Eleanor instead. Florence demands that he leave until Richard reminds her that it is he who owns the cottage. She asks a neighbor boy to keep an eye on things when her daughters are away, but Richard kills the boy and then stabs Florence. The police come to take him away.

Production
Edge of Fury was one of Conrad Hall's first films as a principal cinematographer. In 2003, he was included in a listing of history's ten most influential cinematographers by the International Cinematographers Guild.[3]
