Ear Bitten/No Vowels, No Bowels is a split recording by Severed Heads and Rythmyx Chymx, it also acts as the debut release for both artists. The Ear Bitten side belongs to Severed Heads, while the No Vowels, No Bowels side belongs to Rythmyx Chymx. It's also the only known recording by Rythmyx Chymx, with the exception for a few compilation appearances.

Background and recording

Initially, the Severed Heads recorded a full-length album worth of material, however they chose to release the first half of the recording as a split with Rythmyx Chymx, while the rest of the recorded material would later be released as a C60 cassette album titled Side 2. In 1999, the entire Ear Bitten side of the split was remastered and reissued as Ear Bitten 79 - 99 through Sevcom on CD-R format, which also included remixes done by other artists.

Around 400 copies of the record came with sleeves with home made artwork on them, the Severed Heads side of the sleeve included spray painted designs while each and every Rythmyx Chymx side included paint, pasted photos, and writings in marker. After a fire destroyed many possessions contained in Richard Feilding's house (including many copies of Ear Bitten/No Vowels, No Bowels, many copies of the record were sold in plain white sleeves.

After the record's initial release, it some reviews from local publications, one reviewer in particular saying "In the case of Ear Bitten, the word music may be challenged".[2]
