Ford Duratec engine

Duratec is a brand name of the Ford Motor Company used for its gasoline-powered four-cylinder, five-cylinder and six-cylinder passenger car engines.

The Ford Duratec V6 engine engine was designed by Mazda during the Ford/Mazda partnership, Ford first introduced this engine in the 1993 in the Ford Mondeo. Over time, Duratec was expanded to become an omnibus name for Ford's gasoline engines unrelated to the Mondeo V6, such as variants of the Ford Zeta engine and Ford Sigma engine. The Duratec name is now most commonly used to refer to the four-cylinder Mazda MZR derived Duratec HE engine in 1.8l, 2.0l and 2.3l capacities, this engine is not related to the V6 it shares its name with.[1]

The ambiguous use of the Duratec name is similar to Ford's use of the Zetec for the previous generation of gasoline engines, the Duratorq name for diesel engines and EcoBoost for the current range of turbocharged gasoline engines.
