Dumka Railway Station (station code DUMK) is at Dumka city in Dumka district in the Indian state of Jharkhand on the Jasidih – Rampurhat section. It is in the Asansol Division of the Eastern Railway Zone of the Indian Railway. It has an average elevation of 136 metres (446 ft).
The railway line has single broad gauge 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) track from Jasidih junction in Deoghar District in Santhal Pargana division of Jharkhand to Rampurhat in Birbhum District of West Bengal. This railway track to Dumka is a boon for Santhal Pargana Division.
History
Dumka railway station became operation in 2011. The 72 km (45 mi) segment from Jasidih to Dumka became operational on 12 July 2011.[1] This railway line was sanctioned in 1997-98 Railway Budget but the land acquisition work started after 2002 and major construction started after 2007. First freight train came to Dumka on 12 December 2010. First intercity express between Dumka and Ranchi started on 24 September 2012. It run five days a week except Thursday and Sunday.
Construction of the track from Dumka to Rampurhat was completed in early 2015 and became operational on 4 June 2015 when a passenger train operated from Dumka to Rampurhat.[2] Several new connections between West Bengal and Bihar will now become possible.
The railway line through Dumka will reduce the distance between Jasidih and Rampurhat by 140 km, from current about 270 km via Asansol.
Current projects
A new railway line to connect Dumka to Bhagalpur directly is being constructed. Bhagalpur to Mandar Hill metre gauge railway track was converted to broad gauge. It was extended to Hansdiha and the extension became operational on 23 December 2012. A 30 km railway line from Dumka will connect Hansdiha. A part of it has been completed between Dumka and Baraplasi and made operational in February 2014. Train numbers 53553 and 53554, Jasidih Dumka Passenger trains, now run to Baraplasi.[3]
Facilities
The major facilities available at Dumka station are waiting rooms, computerised reservation facility, reservation counter and vehicle parking.[4] The station also has toilets, refreshment room, a tea stall and a book stall.[5]
Platforms
There are a total of 3 platforms and 5 tracks. The platforms are connected by Foot Over Bridge. These platforms are built to accumulate 24 coaches express train. The platforms are equipped with modern facility like display board of arrival and departure of trains.
Dumka railway station has a separate platform for receiving and unloading freight (goods) trains.

Trains
Three passenger trains run between Jasidih junction and Dumka.[6][7] One intercity express train between Dumka and Ranchi also running daily. One passenger train run between Dumka and Bhagalpur.
Nearest Airport
The nearest airports are[8] Birsa Munda Airport at Ranchi, Gaya Airport, Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport at Patna and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Calcutta.
