Dufferin is a Canadian parish in Charlotte County, New Brunswick.[2]

History

Dufferin Parish created in 1873 from Saint Stephen Parish and named for Frederick Temple-Blackwood, Marquis of Dufferin (1826-1902) and governor-general of Canada from 1872-1878.

Delineation

Dufferin Parish is defined in the Territorial Division Act[3] as:

"Commencing in the centre of the channel of the St. Croix River opposite the mouth of Dennis Stream; thence following the centre of said channel down stream around Todds Point, so called, to Oak Bay, and up the centre of the channel of Oak Bay and of Pagans Cove, to where the northern line of lots fronting on northern side of St. Croix River intersects said cove; thence westerly and northwesterly along said line to the Bay Road,[lower-alpha 1] so called; thence westerly along said road to Dennis Stream, and thence down said stream to beginning."

Governance

The entire parish forms the local service district of Dufferin, established in 1969 to assess for community services. Fire protection was added to the assessment in 1970.
