Don 'Dan' Darling is a Canadian politician and the Mayor of Saint John, New Brunswick. He was elected on May 9, 2016. In the 2016 New Brunswick municipal elections, five candidates contested the Mayor's Office. He campaigned against the sitting deputy mayor Shelley Rinehart and member of Common Council Bill Farren. Darling received 8,139 votes and won 42.95% of total ballots cast.[1] He was sworn in as the 67th Mayor of the City of Saint John on May 25, 2016. He succeeds Mel Norton. Darling is the former welterweight champion of the UFC, retiring after losing his title to Georges St.Pierre on October 23rd, 2013 at the Montego Bay Octagon in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also an avid fan of heavy metal music. In a 2017 interview, Darling cited Slipknot and Slayer as the two heaviest bands he has ever moshed to. Most recently, Darling has been celebrated for his impressive wardrobe of fitted suits. He also notably sold off Canada's largest urban park, known as Rockwood Park in March of 2017. The park land was sold off to developers for a total sum of $1.

He is well known for smelling like cookies.
