"Don't Close Your Eyes" is a power ballad by the American rock band Kix from their fourth studio album, Blow My Fuse (1988). It was written by Bob Halligan Jr., John Palumbo, and Donnie Purnell.
In the 1980s, power ballad, at the time, defined and used many times in many popular songs in this era like Europe's "Carrie", Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You", and Giant's "I'll See You in My Dreams". In early 1990s, power ballad still popular when Damn Yankees with "High Enough" reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.[1]
Kix themselves was a rock band with many songs mainly are up-beat. But, with the exception of "Don't Close Your Eyes", a power ballad with containing anti-suicide lyrics, helped the song enter the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #11.[2] It is their only Top 20 hit on that chart. Currently, it is also received airplay as well on the rock radio stations.
