Distortions Unlimited (often referred to as simply Distortions) is a company based in Greeley, Colorado that manufactures professional Halloween animatronics and masks. The company provides for haunted house attractions. Their products are available through Halloween retailers such as Halloween Express.
Background
In the late 70s and throughout the 80s, most of the products were sculpted by founder Ed Edmunds. Being heavily into sci-fi as a child, much of the masks produced at the time were of aliens and other creatures of the sci-fi genre. The company is responsible for one of the industry's oldest products, a puppet called "Baby Stinky". It was featured on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.[1] Distortions began making Halloween animatronics in the mid 1990s.
In 1981, Marsha Taub joined the team and became co-owner of Distortions.[2] Her and Ed married in 1992 after a mutual passion for art.
In recent years, Ed has turned to professional sculptors like Jordu Schell to sculpt the company's new products.
Making Monsters
In 2011, the Travel Channel began a series called Making Monsters, which documented the process of making Halloween props and animatronics inside the Distortions Colorado warehouse. The channel stopped producing episodes in 2013, but continues to rerun the episodes in the days before Halloween.
