Overview
In 2005, Discovery Network Asia-Pacific launched Discovery HD (now Discovery HD World), the first high-definition channel in Asia. It became available in South Korea in February, and in Japan in December. On April 1, 2010, Discovery HD was rebranded to Discovery HD World. The service broadcast area is different from its Canadian counterpart, Discovery World HD. Back in 2002, Discovery Communications launched Discovery HD Theater in the United States. In Asia, it launched three high-definition channels, Discovery HD (now Discovery HD World), Animal Planet HD and TLC HD. In October 2008, Discovery Channel HD was launched in Japan. In February 2010, Discovery HD World India was launched with customized programming in English, Hindi and Tamil.[2]
