Denag

Denag was the wife of King Yazdegerd II and mother of his sons. She was a clever woman and during his son Hormizd III's reign, she was the governor of the capital.^[1] Yazdegerd II was in Kidarites battle in his last years and died in 447 AD. His elder son Hormizd III, who was at the time governing Sakastan, was heir to the throne, but on his way to claim the crown his younger brother attacked him in Rey, Iran, claiming the kingdom for himself. While these two princes were fighting, their mother, Denag, was governing Ctesiphon, the capital. A remaining stamp shows the face of Denag with a written note in Pahlavi that introduces Denag as Queen of queens.^[2]
